Morehouse College
Morehouse College was founded in 1867 in Augusta, Georgia, before relocating to Atlanta in 1879, where it is still in operation today. Morehouse is a renowned private, all-male, historically Black college, and typically has an enrollment between 2,000 to 3,000 students and about 600 employees.
Morehouse College, a renowned institution with a long legacy of academic excellence, faced challenges in modernizing their communication and collaboration systems. To keep up with the digital demands of a modern education environment, the college sought to migrate their infrastructure environment to Office 365.
The project had three distinct parts:
The migration of faculty and staff from an on-premises Exchange 2010 Infrastructure to a completely cloud-based, Office 365 Infrastructure.
The migration of data and mailboxes for faculty and staff.
Creating licenses and mailboxes for students allowing for easy communication among students and faculty.
The Problem
Morehouse College’s existing Microsoft infrastructure had become outdated and difficult to manage. The platform’s lack of modern collaboration tools, limited storage, and increasing maintenance needs hindered productivity and strained IT resources. The college required a scalable, cloud-based solution that could meet the needs of its growing population while reducing operational overhead. Additionally, the college had been through a downsizing of personnel, and brought on a new, visionary CIO – all requiring strategy alignment and team alliance.
The BlueAlly Solution
After an in-depth assessment of Morehouse College’s needs, BlueAlly designed a migration plan to transition the college’s entire email system to Microsoft Office 365. This cloud-based solution provided the college with a more reliable, secure, and scalable platform while reducing the burden on its IT department. BlueAlly led the migration effort, including the move of 3,000 mailboxes to the new system, all while minimizing disruption to the college’s daily operations.
BlueAlly also provided tailored training to faculty and staff to ensure a smooth adoption of Office 365’s advanced collaboration features, such as OneDrive and SharePoint. These tools allowed for greater flexibility and productivity, aligning with the college’s vision for a modern educational experience.
The Result
The migration to Office 365 provided Morehouse College with several key benefits:
Enhanced Service Delivery
The college achieved 24/7 uptime, ensuring consistent and reliable access to email and collaboration tools.
Streamlined Support
Post-migration, the college gained access to more efficient support services, reducing the burden on its IT department.
Mobile Accessibility
The migration enabled mobile access to essential communication tools, enhancing responsiveness and flexibility for both students and staff.
Efficient Collaboration
By adopting Office 365 features like OneDrive and SharePoint, faculty and students have experienced greater flexibility and productivity.
