The Client

Our client is a private healthcare system based in the United States. Its hundreds of locations provide services covering cardiology, neurology, and other specialties.

Our client, a regional healthcare system, incurred substantial operational costs as it expanded its rack mount server infrastructure to support its business growth. This traditional infrastructure was prone to server sprawl, increased management overhead, and escalating network infrastructure costs when providing Epic, a mission-critical healthcare application, to numerous hospitals through its primary data center. The healthcare system collaborated with BlueAlly to overcome these challenges, resulting in a converged infrastructure design that optimized rack space while increasing compute density, reducing power and cooling requirements, lowering network infrastructure costs, and lowering management overhead. Combined with HPE’s GreenLake pay-as-you-grow model, the resulting solution saved significant costs.

The Problem

Our client needed to reduce operational costs by consolidating its traditional server infrastructure and packing more compute density into smaller rack spaces. The healthcare system also lacked standardization across its infrastructure footprint, resulting in long procurement times and high costs for additional rack mount servers and network switches. The transformation necessary to address these challenges presented technological complexities and high labor investments, pushing our client to seek third-party expertise.

The BlueAlly Solution

Our expert engineers collaborated closely with the healthcare system to understand its previous limitations, enabling us to serve its business requirements through an optimized solution. We initially transitioned our client to a converged infrastructure built upon HPE’s C7000 bladesystem technology. This allowed the healthcare system to purchase prebuilt and preconfigured systems directly from the manufacturer, empowering our client with a true turnkey solution that minimized exorbitant labor costs. By consolidating and converging its rack-mount infrastructure, the healthcare system maximized compute density in smaller rack spaces and reduced costs related to heating, cooling, and switch ports. HPE’s GreenLake platform enabled our client to convert its capital expenses to operational expenses while eliminating over-provisioning and wasted resources.

BlueAlly remained a trusted partner as technology changed over time and helped our client transition to newer hardware, including HPE Synergy when the time was right, thus keeping in compliance with Epic application requirements. HPE GreenLake enhanced scalability and procurement through a “pay as you grow” model, providing our client with additional onsite computing resources that only resulted in operational costs once activated. This enabled the healthcare system to reduce the need for complex capacity planning and minimize supply chain delays during critical care periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Results

Our tailored solution resulted in cost savings while consolidating and optimizing compute resources across our client’s data center, helping the healthcare system continue its business expansion. HPE’s GreenLake empowered the healthcare system with a consumption-based computing model that reduced operational expenditures. Additionally, the solution provided state-of-the-art compute and storage technology, improved performance and reliability, and optimized resource allocation across our client’s virtual environments. This enhanced the healthcare system’s data center operations to support mission-critical Epic workloads in multiple hospital locations.

BlueAlly’s solution also improved our client’s data resiliency by strengthening its business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities, ensuring automatic failover to its secondary sites in the event of a service outage. Finally, as a high-level HPE partner, we can enhance customer support by escalating service tickets, ensuring speedy resolution of operational issues. Through our collaboration, the healthcare system saved substantial costs by optimizing its digital operations, helping it provide lifesaving services to patients through a converged infrastructure that could support mission-critical applications.
